Modeling Population Growth

      In this activity we modeled populations of sparrows. We tested the rate of increase, and the carrying capacity. We also were taught how to use/graph on a spreadsheet by our brilliant instructor. Then we were told to go on our own and model our own population.
     My sparrows were living happily on an island, with pretty much unlimited resources, and they lived happily for 100 years until a category 5 hurricane struck the island wiping out nearly all of the sparrows' resources. The hurricane knocked the carrying capacity from 300 to 25 the population dipped over the next 100 years as natural selection took place and the sparrows had to fight for resources.
