New Brain Map Developed!

A new atlas of the brain has been developed by using MRI data from adult twins. This atlas plots genetic connections between different areas on the cortical region of the twins' brains. The correlations show shared genetic influences and reveal that genetic brain divisions do not match up with traditional divisions that are based on structure and function. Also, scientists have discovered similar genetic patterns exist in other mammals.

A discovery such as this can help scientists unlock more about genetic diseases or other diseases that affect the brain. Having a map in particular is extremely helpful because it will allow scientists to pinpoint an exact location and diagnose a patient much quicker.
